BioEveryone has had bad ideas. Gladys Gudgeon used to be full of them. There was the time she trained the Hogwarts owls to give their parcels and messages to her. There was the time she stole a Time-turner from said owls. And then there was the time she used it...
Transported instantly from 1976 back to 1962, Gladys learned very quickly that following through on bad ideas can bring unintended consequences.
Biography
Gladys was born in 1966 to David and Clarissa, who already had a son, Davey. David and Clarissa were avid wildlife researchers, often venturing out into the wilds of Africa to search for new magical species of plants and animals. From one such trip they did not return, leaving their two orphaned children to be shuffled around from relative to relative.
At last the two settled down with Romserta Gudgeon, owner of the Three Broomsticks, and a year later Gladys started her first year at Hogwarts, where she was sorted into Slytherin. Everything seemed to be fine, but then, Gladys always had a knack for getting into trouble. She had just been making friends for the first time, her eyes opened up to a new view of the world, when she managed to steal a Time-turner. Whilst playing around, she sent herself hurtling back in time to 1962, the year her parents graduated Hogwarts.
She arrived early in the summer, when few people were about the grounds. There she befriended Professor Kettleburn, an elderly wizard who's own daughter had died many years before. By the end of the summer, Kettleburn had decided to adopt her, and with then-Headmaster Dippet's help, a ruse began that was to last for fifteen years.
Although subdued, Gladys still had a vibrant personality, and she made a lasting impression on her parents - so much so that they would go on to name their daughter after her. But though she longed to, she found she could not return to the present day - the price she had to pay for the chance to know her parents, and the recklessness she'd until then always displayed.
Nevertheless, all was not lost - as a Slytherin Sorted in 1962, she met and befriended Urbana and Quintessa Malfoy. She also made pains to get to know her aunt Rosmerta. That branching out, aided by her own sense of rebelliousness, allowed her to meet all sorts of people growing up, many the parents of the friends she'd made before she travelled back in time.
Upon graduating, she went to work in an owl nursery, and her expertise with all sorts of creatures led her to write several books. When her brother Davey entered Hogwarts, however, she could not resist the temptation to see the boy she'd missed so much. She arranged for her adopted father to take some time off, and has been teaching in his place for the last five years.
